Directions to Larrikins 2008 Campout

BALNERARIO LAS PALMAS

Take either the 805 or the 5 Fwy. Southbound to the San Ysidro border crossing. Either freeway will get you to the same place.

Immediately after you cross the border, merge to the right and stay in the right lane. The ROSARITO/ENSENADA exit is now on the RIGHT only ½ mi. from the border. Follow the signs for ROSARITO/ENSENADA SCENIC ROAD.

Stay on the toll road heading South toward Ensenada. You will pass Rosarito, Puerto Nuevo and Cantamar. When you get to the KM 65 marker, you are almost at your exit. Exit immediately after this marker for “La Mision/Plaza del Mar.” After you exit, turn Left and go past the La Fonda Hotel.

You will continue south until you hit the very small “town” of La Mision. You will see a couple of stores and Maganas Restaurant will be on the right. Just after this you will cross a bridge. Immediately after the bridge, you will see a sign that reads “Poblado Proximo.” Turn Right just after the sign and head west – toward the Ocean. This road will curve around the base of the mountain. You will see the campground approx. ¼ mi on the Left. (Travel time after you Exit the toll road by La Fonda should be no more than 15 minutes. If you start heading up a big grade after the town of La Mision, you missed the turnoff for the campground – go back).

Approximate travel time from downtown San Diego – with no traffic – is 1 hour 20 minutes.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS:

  • It is illegal to drive in Mexico without Mexican car insurance. You can get this at any AAA office, at one of the drive-through stations just before the border or online.
  • Watch your speed traveling through TJ and up to the first toll checkpoint. The TJ cops have some speed traps set along this area.
  • Firearms and drugs are illegal in Mexico. Don’t bring them – if you do, you risk going to Mexican jail if you get caught. We will not bail you out.
