The mostly-annual Intergalactic desert campout
Hare(s): Dr.Dive, Burnt Tatas & others
Location: Borrego Mountain wash area, about 30 miles east of Julian, Anza-Borrego Desert State Park
Directions: From Julian head east on the 78 hwy towards Westmoreland. After about 27 miles you will pass the second turnoff for Borrego Springs (Borrego Springs Rd). Continue on 78 hwy for another 1.5 miles and look for hash marks and a small brown sign on the left that says "Buttes Pass". Turn left (north) onto this dirt road and follow it straight, do not turn right at the fork. Don't worry about sand, it's not deep, just keep moving. After 0.8 miles you will come to some hills and ravines, and a parking area. Large RVs are recommended to camp here due to rougher road road conditions beyond this point, and keep in mind this is a well used trailhead, so you will have mortal visitors during the day. For others, the road continues left. Our campground is another 0.3 miles along the road. Map link: http://tinyurl.com/9vsosbz
Run Fee: Free camping, just bring your own everything, except firewood which will be supplied. Bring something to share for potluck dinner on Saturday night.
Trail type: (not specified)
Dog friendly: (not specified)
Notes:
The Intergalactic H3 campout returns! Come out Friday night or Saturday morning, stay til Sunday. Bring something to share for potluck dinner on Saturday night. There are no trees or shade at the campsite so shade popups will be useful.
Saturday morning there will be a hash trail from camp that will take you to a slot canyon, some wind caves, the badlands, and great views. After down-downs and lunch there will be a 4WD trip to Fish Creek Wash for some exploration. Sunday morning there will be another trail.
